He……..rebuked the Wind.
Jesus slept as the disciples sailed a fishing boat toward the opposite direction of the Sea of Galilee. A terrible storm struck suddenly. The terrified fishermen certain that the boat would sink. Jesus was awakened by his terrified disciples, He immediately took charge commanding the churning waters and the storm to be still. He stopped the storm and rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith. The amazed disciples voiced the question, “Who can this be?”. Jesus then used the experience to teach the disciples about faith by challenging them to evaluate the reaction during the storm.
This miracle account is a favorite of the believers perhaps it speaks so clearly ad directly to each one of us in our own lives.
1.The great windstorm represents the storms we face in ourlives.
2. The boat represents our security, which is threatened by the waves bearing into it.
3. Jesus asleep in the boat represent the apparent silence of God when we are overcome by stress and fear.
4. The cry “Do you not care that we are perishing.” expresses our own deep feelings of abandonment by God when life overwhelms us.
5.Jesus’ rebuke of the wind and the sea reminds us of Christ’s Sovereign control over every circumstance of our life
6. The calm that followed immediately after the storm symbolizes the inner calm we can experience when we rely on Jesus’ love and His Word.
7. Jesus’ rebuke, “Why are you so fearful?”, reminds us that when Jesus is in our lives, we must trust Him,even when life’s storms intensify.
8. Jesus’ question ” How is that you have no faith?” invites us to remember that all Christ has done for us in the past. Remembering yesterdays goodness strengthens the faith we need to face today and tomorrow.
9. The disciples fear reminds us always to hold Jesus in awe, remembering that truly He is God.
10.The Question,”Who can this be?” is answered by the miracles and the scriptures. We are to concentrate on Him and not let life’s circumstances confuse or distract us.
